A24's forthcoming horror feature, 'Backrooms,' has just released a new promotional video, offering horror enthusiasts an enhanced preview of the movie. While the initial preview comprised merely a minute of progressively unsettling imagery of deserted environments, this new trailer introduces the film's ensemble cast and reveals more of the vast, eerie Backrooms.
The narrative follows individuals as they venture into, and subsequently become disoriented within, the eponymous Backrooms. This liminal realm exists in an alternate dimension, characterized by its yellow walls, moist carpeting, and largely desolate expanse. However, it is far from empty, inhabited by bizarre entities that roam its corridors. A chilling sentiment from a 4chan post, instrumental in the Backrooms' inception, warns: 'May God protect you if you detect movement nearby, for it has assuredly sensed your presence.'
'Backrooms' features a talented cast including Chiwetel Ejiofor, known for his roles in '12 Years a Slave' and 'Doctor Strange,' Renate Reinsve from 'The Worst Person in the World,' and Lukita Maxwell, recognized for 'Generation' and 'Shrinking.' Notably, the film is helmed by 20-year-old director Kane Parsons, who was just 17 when the project was first announced. Parsons significantly contributed to the Backrooms' widespread recognition through a collection of short films on his YouTube channel, with the inaugural video garnering over 73 million views. From the footage released so far, it appears Parsons is exceptionally suited to transform this internet creepypasta into a full-length motion picture.
The film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 29, 2026. Parsons will have to wait an additional month to legally commemorate his directorial debut with a celebratory drink. Below, you can view the film's haunting promotional artworks.
