Global Payments Platform Expands with Swiss Franc Capabilities

06/02 2025

A significant milestone has been reached by Banking Circle, a global clearing provider, as it fortifies its embedded financial infrastructure through direct access to the Swiss National Bank’s Swiss Interbank Clearing (SIC) system. This development is pivotal in constructing a worldwide payments platform centered on interoperability. Clients of Banking Circle can now enjoy extensive support for both real-time gross settlement (RTGS) and automated clearing house (ACH) transactions in Swiss Francs (CHF). Additionally, they gain access to Liechtenstein-issued VIBAN accounts that ensure complete operational control and regulatory compliance. This advancement aligns with Banking Circle's mission to offer immediate, cost-effective, scalable cross-border solutions throughout Europe.

The integration of CHF signifies that Banking Circle now offers direct access to local payment systems and account structures for five out of twelve major currencies across Europe and the UK. This move underscores their aspiration to function as a super-correspondent bank for global B2B operations, eliminating existing barriers that hinder market demand from European businesses seeking instant payment flows while enhancing financial inclusion continent-wide.

This new CHF payment solution brings three key advantages: direct involvement in domestic and international CHF payments, an entirely integrated, real-time link to Liechtenstein and Switzerland payment systems via the SIC system, and effortless account management through efficient, scalable account infrastructure using Liechtenstein-issued VIBANs tailored to clients' specific needs.

Through a single API, Banking Circle provides access to multiple local schemes and IBAN or account capabilities in Euros (EUR), Pound Sterling (GBP), Danish Krone (DKK), Swedish Krona (SEK), and Australian Dollars (AUD), with plans to expand further in 2025 and beyond. In accordance with Banking Circle's long-term strategy, the CHF solution is currently active, with a comprehensive commercial launch underway. The company continues its expansion aligned with its vision to establish an international clearing network catering to businesses operating in various regions.

Laust Bertelsen, the chief executive officer at Banking Circle, highlighted that this initiative reflects the market's desire for enhanced global payments infrastructure. He emphasized the company's aim to become the leading payments bank for European financial institutions seeking streamlined, rapid, real-time transactions. According to Bertelsen, CHF plays a crucial role in addressing current challenges, enabling clients to access the system seamlessly via their tech-first platform, which ensures transparent, controlled, and cost-efficient payment processes.

As more entities join Banking Circle's payments ecosystem, customers will experience increasing speed and efficiency. From initial setup to transaction execution, clients can now manage their payment streams across five essential European currencies through a singular integration. This reduces fragmentation, eliminates dependency on sponsor banks, and empowers financial institutions of all sizes to flourish in a real-time economy.
